Abu Simbel Day Trip from Aswan
Three hours south of Aswan, at the edge of Lake Nasser, Ramses II carved four 20-metre images of himself into the mountain — aligned so precisely that twice a year the rising sun reaches 60 metres inside to light his statue in the sanctuary. Next door, uniquely in Egypt, he built an equal temple for his queen, Nefertari.
Just as remarkable: in the 1960s UNESCO sawed both temples into 1,000-ton blocks and rebuilt them 65 metres higher to save them from the new lake. Your guide briefs you on the drive; inside the temples you explore at your own pace.

The convoy start is worth itAbu Simbel at 8am light, before the buses from the airport — our guide timed it perfectly. The relocation story is as amazing as the temple.
